childrens books divorce

for children "My father wants to see this weekend?
When he comes, I know he wants to talk. I filed for divorce, waiting for my courtdate to arrive. it's really interesting to see how they say they want their children, but used as an excuse to talk to me or contact me somehow. I try to be very strong. I saw all the lies you have in books and evrything was treated throughout our marriage. Is there any way I can stop talking to him? I said I would take the kids to the park and could meet. I said I do not speak with him. When I do, I always left as a baby because I am not "giving it attention." So do the last thing xmas. The only thing that really bothers me is that when you Come see the children (who are happy and content), but when he goes, because I do not let it get away with it harmful to children. Why? How can I stay strong in this situation?
You mean you just see or pick only children? And you say that if you do not speak with him, leaving no children? If this is the kind of father that give so many good fathers a bad name. They have family or friend will be there when it comes to children - and let him know he's not here. My God, how could he do to their children?
assault against "Good Divorce" Wedding
Elizabeth Marquardt presented his book "Between Two Worlds" (Crown Publishers, 2005) based on cutting-edge research that offers new perspectives for the real impact of divorce on children. Its main findings are that there is no such thing as a "good divorce ", that 75% of divorces are" low-conflict marriages, where parents must choose to stay together, and divorce that creates long-term effects, detrimental because it forces children to navigate the worlds separated from their parents. This leaves the children who allegedly are lonely, spiritual, moral, religious and lost.
As a psychologist who worked with children and families for forty years, my reading of this book led me to conclude that the investigation was completely Marquardt I thought wrong and selectively choose the results to support his hypothesis, without taking into account the data that challenged the important points. Despite being rapidly convicted by the media to provide strong evidence that divorce is really dangerous for children and creating a lasting anguish in their lives, do not think the book is indeed a case. In fact, I think this book shows that there is no such thing as a divorce better and be together for the welfare of children does not lead to better outcomes for adult children of these families.
The author of view:
Marquardt is firm in his belief that most divorces are not necessary. She attributes this in part on myth of the "good divorce" (common sense, in this case has little negative impact on children) as the basis for 75% of divorced couples whose marriage is defined as having been "low conflict" (essentially a divorce is not significantly based on a situation abuse). The author argues that parents unhappy, marriage weak must be prepared to excel, to work harder to resolve conflicts in their problems, or simply delay the divorce until the children leave home. This is the familiar "stay together-for-the-love-of-children."
This is what they describe as marriage divorce against offenders good debate. Marquardt says the myth of the good divorce is dishonest children and ignores her pain. But I think to believe that a marriage is going well until the children leave at least as dishonest.
Unless someone can prove that divorce is inevitable seriously detrimental to most children, it has the right to say that adults married, have no choice but to stay in an unhappy marriage? Marquardt seems that she has the right to do so. Thus, the data must be convincing. Take a careful examination.
Examination of the data:
Marquardt argues that "We [children of] divorce could be very good to everyone, but we talked about our inner life and find, just below the surface, a powerful mix of loss and confusion sought [emphasis added] to us today. "(P.39) This powerful statement of the destructive effects of divorce, my opinion is not based on facts but on the author's personal experience and stories of students met with in the first phase of research (to create the survey questions.) She refers to her as "profound and moving stories of confusion, isolation and suffering. "(P.32)
This negative view is particularly surprising given that the author describes his current life in terms brighter: a marriage and wonderful family and a very rewarding career. She said this is also true for many people he interviewed. However, in response to the question, "How satisfied are you with your life?" 94.9% of adults from divorced families have a positive response compared with 97.6% of adults from intact families. Not only have in the case of a significant difference suggests that most adults of divorced parents in this study did not achieve significantly that the author claims.
The book is titled "Between Two Worlds" because Marquardt argues that there is an adverse effect, emotionally, morally and spiritually have to go back and forth between the houses of their parents. It is this question of living in two different worlds with different rules and complex boundaries, the author points out that the cause most of the destructive effects of divorce on children. Do not minimize the traumatic impact that divorce has everyone concerned, but I will choose the outcome of the wide range of data Marquardt not appear to support a series of statements by the author on this issue.
Marquardt concluded that divorce creates a sense of confusion morality in children due to the absence of a unified guidance of the parents (who live in two houses), and divorce has a negative impact on spiritual development of children and religious commitment. However, in response to the survey question, "I think my knowledge of good and evil is blurred." There was virtually no difference in the responses of adults from divorced and intact families. In fact, over 95% of both groups revealed no morality "Fog" at all! Therefore, a central hypothesis, which is a divorced family the expense of moral clarity does not seem to be supported by the data.
Another aspect of feeling lost and confused Marquardt maintains that as a result of growing up in a divorced family, the result is that the sense of freedom from home More Than the meaning two houses. However, in response to the question: "After divorce, placing print for you?, 93% said they felt like the house of a relative, or both, felt at home. Therefore, this hypothesis of "homeless" is not compatible with the data.
Almost half of the questions in the survey relate to religion and spirituality, which is logical since he was a research project on life "moral and spiritual children of divorce." But the data is Marquardt's claim that divorce has a negative impact on the religious aspects of life of children from divorced families. A significant percentage of adults from divorced families were rated as more religious than their parents (47%) and mothers (31.4%). Perhaps even more surprising is that 79.1% of these adults describe God as caring (against 82.3% of the intact family group) and 78.8% describe God as unconditional love (against 79.7% in the control group). Thus, data do not support the idea that the outcome of divorce for adult children become less religious.
Now comes the real wonder. In response to the statement, "My spirituality has been strengthened by adversity in my life." 43.7% of adults of divorced parents strongly agree "If you add" somewhat agree " (30.5%), the message is that almost three quarters of adults whose parents divorced describe their spirituality as having been reinforced! These data are so powerful that the author mentions in the text (p.153) in a statement in a comment said nothing about the incredible implications of this exceptional spiritual strength. research, but the author virtually ignores. I see this as a particularly striking example of the tendency of the author against divorce.
Thus, the author's data do not appear support its conclusions that adults of divorced families dismay, morally lost, less spiritual and less religious than adults from intact families.
These results are more positive about spirituality, religion, the sense to understand and have a house are very consistent with research by Dr. Mavis Hetherington. His research is longitudinal, not retroactive. Divorce took hundreds of families, many up to three decades, periodically reassess the impact of divorce on children and their parents. The data from each stage of life is far more convincing than the data obtained in a retrospective survey. In addition, research has been widely published in professional journals over a period of several years before the author summarizes his findings in a book. Mr. Heatherington concluded that 75% of children of divorce not have serious psychological problems (compared with approximately 90% of the groups not divorced). He also noted that most children after divorce six years have adapted to changes in your life imposed by the divorce of their parents and are more concerned with development issues in the typical life daily. This is in sharp contrast to Marquardt is much more negative findings, but is compatible with the positive results of their own data it chooses to ignore.
Finally, I address this in many ways is the central question of this book is true, there is no such thing as a "good" divorce is preferable that parents stay married, even if there is a conflict (low compared to high).
Appendix A presents the results of 33 questions for the five groups of subjects (Identifiers consult with parents of adults surveyed). Three sub-groups are of an intact marriage: Very Happy / low conflict, is not happy / low conflict is not happy / high conflict. The latter two groups are divorced marriages: Good Divorce "and" Bad "for divorce. The data clearly show that children and adults are very negative for high-conflict divorces (the scores are almost all far worse than any other category) and that children and adults of marriages happy to have the best life intact. I am sure that almost everyone knew that without reading the book.
But it is important to note that 29 of the 33 states summary in Appendix A, "Good Divorce" group has been more positive than "Bad divorce 'group and most of these differences are quite large. What this means very clearly that what is done to teach parents to divorce in a more favorable to children is really useful. Children of Divorce in good "are in a much more positive, suggesting that all books, workshops, therapies and the writer belittles the creation of a false myth that" good divorce can have a real value.
What do the data on the author's main thesis that it is better for parents who are unhappy in marriage bit conflict, stay married rather than try to have a "good divorce"? Most spectacular, what I consider the two most critical states, the results suggest a more positive outcome for the "good divorce" group! 57.1% of adults in this group are described as "very happy" compared with 47.8% of unhappy marriage, a low-conflict group. Similarly, 62.3% of adults in the "good divorce" group described themselves as "very satisfied with life as a whole. "compared with 56.2% of unhappy marriage, a low-conflict group. Faced with only two elements, the way the author can conclude that it is better for the unhappy couples in conflict, after trying everything possible to resolve their differences to stay together instead of working in a healthy divorce?
I'm not trying to deny that there is nothing to gain from a low-conflict couples to solve their problems and stay together. The important point here is that I do not think the author gave to you, that when these unfortunate couples resolve disputes low divorce, who are selfish, putting their own needs ahead of their children, and condemn their children to a life of utter confusion, isolation and suffering. Such an attitude of contempt for couples opting for divorce is not neglected.
